The Courses
The 5 & 10 mile courses are fast, flat and record setting. The 10 mile course covers the same path as the 5 mile course along the famous and beautiful University Lakes, a.k.a. the LSU Lakes. Officially, the Lakes consists of seven urban lakes ranging in size from 3 to 195 acres with approximately 300 acres in total. The man-made lakes were formed in the 1930’s when cypress swamps were timbered and dammed.
Realistically, running the Lakes takes center stage in the local running scene. Along the route you will see impressive Oaks and Cyprus trees filled with a wide variety of birds common to the area or passing through for the season.
If you haven’t run a loop before or in a while, then sign up for Goldenfliers and enjoy kicking off the holiday season with a fast, flat race with good friends and family.
The Start
The 10 miler race begins at 8:00 and it is .4 of a mile, three to four blocks away, from the start of the 5 miler, which begins at 8:15. This allows both milers to finish to finish at the same point and give the 10 mile runners a slightly different path to avoid bottlenecks along the way.
